How to Buy Bar Furniture

Bars are becoming more and more popular, not just commercially but in the home as well. Before purchasing bar furniture, however, you must familiarize yourself with what it entails and decide what type of furniture works best in your home or bar. Bar furniture generally consists of bars, barstools, pub tables, wine racks, and miscellaneous accessories. Let’s take a look at each entity more closely.

Bars

A Bar Case is the bare essential for a bar and consists of a counter equipped with a place for storing bottles. Most Bar Cases feature a top made of a different material than the case itself, such as marble, which is a suitable surface for serving drinks. Just about all cases hold at least ten bottles, but some are designed with extra storage room. Keep this in mind as you shop for a bar. If you like to keep many bottles of alcohol in your home for unexpected visits, it would be prudent to purchase a bar case with more storage area. This, however, does not mean that you have to overpay. Remember that the price for a bar depends more on its design, maker, and materials used than on the amount of bottles it holds. Some bars are 2-Piece units and come with a Wine Cabinet that offers a multitude of storage room for many kinds of liquor. When purchased as a set, the Wine Cabinet matches the finish of the Bar Case and replicates its design, thus enhancing the bar’s appearance.

Barstools

Despite the fact that all barstools serve the same purpose, their construction varies greatly. Often made with wood or metal, stools come either with or without armrests, footrests, and backs. Some barstools are made for the outdoors, in which case they will not rust. There are also Commercial Barstools, made specifically for restaurants or pubs. These stools are specifically designed to be especially durable and withstand heavy usage.  They are resistant to fire and pass California Fire Code 117-E. Though generally intended for bars, lately barstools have become popular in  homes even without bar units. They are placed at the kitchen counter and provide a higher view when eating or drinking. One last important point to remember when shopping for barstools is that they are usually sold separately from bars. Do not be deceived if a picture of a bar has barstools next to it; most likely, barstools are not included and come as an option for an additional price. Take this into consideration when estimating the cost of a bar and its accessories. Keep in mind that, if you are purchasing barstools separately from bars or tables, there should be 10-13 inches between the seat of the stool and the bottom of the table or bar, as this will allow for plenty of leg room.

Pub Tables

Pub Tables differ from regular dining tables by their height. As such, they need to be accompanied by chairs that match accordingly. Thusly, just as with bars, be careful to check whether or not barstools are included with the pub table. Though a price may seem good, it may be so just because no chairs are included. Like barstools, some pub tables are made for the outdoors. These pub tables are made with weather resistant materials. Still, it is advisable to clean your outdoor tables at least once a year. If beverages are spilled, they should be cleaned up right away because they can easily damage finishes. It is also advisable not to leave outdoor pub tables or pub table sets outside for the winter. Either store them in a dry place or cover them with a protective material. This should not prove to be too much of an inconvenience because inclement weather would not have permitted you to use the pub table anyway.

Wine Racks and Other Accessories

Another solution to the aforementioned problem of storage is a wine rack. These come in many different designs, so be sure to pick the one that fits your home best. Wine racks provide additional space for holding bottles. However, most offer more functions. A majority of wine racks come with drawers or shelves to hold plates or accessories, such as bottle openers or stoppers, and some even feature glassware holders. Please remember that the functionality of the wine rack correlates almost directly to its price. If you are merely looking for more room to store your alcohol, a simplistic option would be your best bet. However, if enhancing your bar is what you are after, shop around for a (wine) bottle holder that has the optimal functionality and price for you. In addition to wine racks, wine coolers are another option. They have an adjustable temperature so that you can drink wine at a chillness degree that is perfect for your taste.

Now that you have read about different kinds of bar furniture, you are more prepared to make a purchase. Bear in mind that the most important aspect of any bar furniture is its appeal to you and its fit in your home or restaurant. As long as that remains your top priority, you will not go wrong.
